My Son and I: 3 decades of cybersecurity differences!

The problems malware causes for the worldwide ecosystem started over 30 years ago. In these 3 decades we’ve had new versions of Operating Systems, bugs, malware, cyberattacks. Normally one learns from mistakes made before, but somehow in the cyber-eco-system, seemingly it is exactly the opposite. This lecture shows the real story of my son and myself telling each other that new cyber problems are not always so new as they seem to be. And what about the future?


Eddy Willems, from Belgium, is a well-known expert in security and malware. Currently he is also a board member of two security industry organizations –EICAR and LSEC – and the resident Security Evangelist and Global Security Officer at G Data Software. He studied Computer Science at IHB and VUB and started working as a Systems Analyst in 1984. He became a founding member of EICAR, one of Europe’s first IT security organizations, in 1991. In his current role, he gives presentations and seminars all over the world. Several CERTs, press agencies, print and online publications and broadcasting media, for example CNN, use his advice regularly. In 2013, he published his first book in Belgium and the Netherlands, titled ‘Cybergevaar’. In 2015 an updated version, ‘Cybergefahr’, was published in German-speaking countries. An updated and expanded English edition, ‘Cyberdanger’, was launched in 2019 worldwide.
